Greece is a European country situated on the southern end of the Balkan Peninsula, bordering to Albania, Bulgaria, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Turkey. Bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea, it holds a vast number of islands, islets and rock islands, scenery of numerous mythologies. The official language is Greek.

The climate of Greece can be categorized into three types: the Mediterranean, with generally mild weather, wet winters, and hot and dry summers; the Alpine that features wetter and the Temperate.
Considered the birthplace of Democracy, Greece is a Parliamentary Republic, granting specific guarantees to the civil liberties and the social rights.
Greece's economy has been experiencing a GDP considerable growth after World War II ended. It became member of the EU in 1981, and joined the Euro currency in the year 2002.
The service industry makes up the largest, most vital and fastest-growing sector of the Greek economy, followed by industry and agriculture. Shipping is one of the country's most important industries, followed by the tourism industry that is a major source of foreign exchange earnings and revenue accounting for 15% of Greece´s total GDP that employs, directly or indirectly, 16.5% of the total workforce. The yearly average income is 29.146 USD.
It holds the 39th position in the list of countries by immigrant population, published by the United Nations report World Population Policies 2005, with approximately 974.000 immigrants.
